Sadsbury Friends Meeting, 1089 Simmontown Road, Gap, will host a talk by Connie Webster, titled "Caught in the Middle," on Saturday, Aug. 1, at 10 a.m.

Webster is a descendant of Quaker Benjamin Gilbert, whose family was taken into captivity in 1780 by Native Americans. The American Revolution was challenging for both pacifist Quakers and Native Americans, and the 1779 Sullivan's March destroyed the villages of four Native nations allied with the British. A year later, in retaliation, 11 Native Americans captured the Gilbert family of Jim Thorpe and burned their homestead and mill. Over a two-year period, the family endured a march to Montreal, and some of the Gilbert children were adopted by Native families. Although Benjamin did not survive, most of the family members were released and returned to Pennsylvania two years later. Webster will recount their journey.
