School helps families during holiday season

East High Street Elementary School continued its annual Giving Tree and Food Drive this holiday season. In 2023, 85 children from 45 families benefited from the program.

The Giving Tree was open to faculty members, staff members, and the school's PTO. Participants had the opportunity to purchase gifts, fulfilling wish lists from families facing financial challenges. The gifts, ranging from essential items like hats, gloves, and jackets, to coveted toys, were individually wrapped and symbolized the community members' collective commitment to supporting one another during the holiday season.

Simultaneously, during the food drive, students contributed nonperishable items for families in need. The initiative resulted in the collection of 1,130 grocery items. Rebecca Booth's high school class partnered with students from East High Street Elementary to assist in sorting food products and assembling food boxes.

Community Connections is a core pillar of the Elizabethtown Area School District's benefits-based accountability initiative. For this reason, East High Street Elementary students learn the value of service year-round, and the school remains dedicated to fostering a spirit of giving and building a foundation for students to become engaged, empathetic, and productive members of society.
