Scouts, Amvets Plan Ride For Wreaths

Boy Scout Troop 64, based in Rohrerstown, and Amvets Riders Post 19 are teaming up to hold a Ride for Wreaths on Saturday, Oct. 9, to garner wreath sponsorships for Wreaths Across America. Wreaths Across America is a national nonprofit organization that honors veterans and their families by placing wreaths on veterans' graves for the holidays. Troop 64 and Post 19 would like to garner enough sponsorships to pay for the 44,000 wreaths needed at Indiantown Gap as well as 2,000 wreaths for several other local cemeteries.

The ride will start at Amvets Post 19, 715 Fairview Ave., Lancaster, with registration at 10 a.m. and kickstands up at noon. The ride will proceed to Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, and the event will also include food and games. Troop 64 will perform a flag ceremony at the Amvets Post and a small remembrance ceremony at Indiantown Gap.

There is a fee per bike, with a discount per extra rider. For information about the ride, to sponsor wreaths, or to get involved with Wreaths Across America, contact Nina Evans at 717-572-3448.

Troop 64 and Amvets Post 19 will place wreaths at Indiantown Gap on Saturday, Dec. 18, and at local cemeteries on Sunday, Dec. 19.
