SECA To Host Second Annual Community Day

Although summer has come to a close - and so has the pool at the Southern End Community Association (SECA) - that does not mean free outdoor events have to end.

SECA will host its second annual Community Day on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at SECA, 299 Park Ave., Quarryville. This year will feature yard sale and craft vendors, and the snack bar will sell half-priced food items typically available for purchase during the pool season.

"One of the things I wanted to do when I first started working here was increase the amount of free events that we offer to the community, and this is one of those," stated Rick Kerns, who has served as director of SECA for the past two years. He hopes that the event will offer an atmosphere where people can interact and shop the vendors.

Vendor spaces are available. Those interested in registering must do so prior to Friday, Oct. 1, at https://secarec.org/seca-community-day-2021. The fee will include the use of a table.

New to this year's Community Day will be an inaugural "howl-o-ween" dog costume parade party. Kerns noted that this will be similar to the Doggie Dip event, but the pool will not be open. Dogs, as well as their owners, can attend dressed in costumes and compete for prizes in three categories: best overall costume, funniest costume, and most adorable costume. Preregistration is required and can be completed by calling 717-806-0123 or emailing seca@epix.net with the attendee's name, their dog's name, the number of adults and children attending, and a phone number or email where they can be reached. Dogs must be up to date on their vaccinations, and spectators are welcome to attend. The party will run at the pool from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 2.

"Hopefully we have great fall weather, and people will come out, enjoy some activities, and get their day off to a good start," said Kerns.
