Senior Club To Host Author, Storyteller

The Birdsboro Senior Club at St. Mark's Lutheran Church has announced that local author and storyteller Charles Adams III will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the group on Thursday, Nov. 18.

Adams is the editor of the Berks County Historical Review and an author of more than 30 books on topics ranging from travel and the paranormal to baseball, shipwrecks and train crashes. His book titles include "Ghost Stories of Berks County," "Great Train Wrecks of Eastern Pennsylvania," "Baseball in Reading (Images of Baseball)," "Berks the Bizarre" and "Pennsylvania Dutch Country Ghost Legends and Lore."

In addition to his books, Adams writes regular features on travel and local legends for magazines and other publications. He has been an on-air radio personality on a Reading station and has been seen on TV shows that have aired on the History Channel, the Travel Channel, the Learning Channel and Nat Geo. Adams has also been a singer and keyboard player in rock bands since his high school days, and he has written numerous commercial jingles and songs.

Doors will open at 9 a.m. and a snack of brownies with beverages will be served. At 9:30 a.m., attendees will take part in a craft led by Mary Kilareski. Adams' talk will begin at 11 a.m.

A Thanksgiving luncheon will be served at noon featuring turkey with all the fixings and carrot cake for dessert.

The Senior Club is free and open to people age 55 and over. A free will donation will be received.

The Senior Club is held on the first and third Thursdays of the month. Bingo is offered on the first Thursday, and crafts are featured on the third Thursday. A home-cooked meal is served at noon, with donations accepted for the lunch. Generally about 45 seniors attend meetings on a regular basis.

Transportation to the church is available for local seniors. Those who need transportation must call the church office at 610-582-8167 by Wednesday at noon before the Thursday meeting.
