Senior Commons at Powder Mill, 1775 Powder Mill Road, York, hosts a dementia education and support group with informative topics to support the well-being of older adults with Alzheimer's or other dementias and their family care partners. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month beginning at 6 p.m.

The next meeting, set for Thursday, May 15, will continue to explore "The Dementia Action Plan" and the "Seven Steps to Take in the Face of Dementia." These steps have the potential to make a lasting impact on people's ability to successfully navigate life as a caregiver, partner or as someone living with dementia.

Senior Commons at Powder Mill also recently announced its selection as a "Best Independent Living" community in the U.S. News & World Report 2025 Best Senior Living Ratings.

The 2025 edition names 1,894 senior living communities nationwide for excellence in one or more care service categories. Senior Commons has been recognized as a "Best" community in previous years.

The ratings reflect survey responses from nearly 450,000 residents and family members across more than 3,800 senior living communities nationwide. The survey asked participants to rate satisfaction with safety, caregiving, activities, management, staff, dining, value and other aspects of community life.

In addition to its "Best" recognition, Senior Commons earned a "High Performing" accolade for outstanding performance in the activities and enrichment category. U.S. News granted this distinction to communities that scored in the top 25% of evaluated communities nationwide for caregiving, activities and enrichment, management and staff, food and dining and homelike environment and met other certain criteria.
