Seniors Invited To Try Fitness Classes

Lititz recCenter, 301 W. Maple St., will celebrate National Senior Health and Fitness Day on Wednesday, May 26, with free fitness classes for seniors. Community members age 60 and up are invited to attend any of three scheduled morning classes led by certified instructors in indoor fitness studios and the main indoor pool.

At 8 a.m., a 45-minute Silver Strong class will focus on cardio and weight training using a variety of equipment, such as medicine balls, hand weights and resistance bands. At 11:15 a.m., a 45-minute Silver Strength chair-based fitness class will provide a low-impact workout experience to build strength and endurance with limited standing.

In the Lititz recCenter's eight-lane indoor lap pool, seniors can join in a weekly Office of Aging Senior Water Exercise class between 10:45 and 11:45 a.m. This low-impact class is provided in shallow water for people of all fitness levels. The main pool is equipped with a ramp for easy water access.

In addition to these free fitness classes, the rec center will offer a membership discount on May 26 for seniors age 60 and up, and discounts will be available for seniors to book spa services, individualized personal training, or nutrition counseling.

No reservations are required. Attending seniors should wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes. Swim attire is required for the indoor pool, and showers and locker rooms will be available for use.
