Adoniyas Shefnie and Daniela Cruz have been selected as December's Seniors of the Month at Manheim Central High School. The Manheim Women's Club sponsors the Girls of the Month, and the Rotary Club of Manheim sponsors the Boys of the Month. Seniors of the Month are chosen by the professional staff of the high school based on academic achievement, character, and involvement within the school and community.

Adoniyas, 18, is the son of Dereje Zewdu and Tsega Bekele of Mount Joy. He has played on the soccer team for four years and was varsity captain his senior year. He is involved in the Amnesty International Club and is an Attollo Prep Scholar, the student leader of the Ethiopian Eritrean Club, and a member and volunteer at Light of the World Evangelical Church. Adoniyas is a marketing intern at Attollo Prep. He plans to attend college to study international business and finance.

Daniela, 18, is the daughter of Carlos Cruz and Marisela Mercado of Mount Joy. She is president of the Spanish Club, president of Science Olympiad, an Attollo Scholar, a two-year member of the tennis team and a member of National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Rho Kappa, Math Honor Society and English Honor Society. She was secretary of the Interact Club in 10th grade, public relations officer for Student Council in 11th grade and a Mini-THON advertising chair for Student Council.

Through Interact Club, she has volunteered at Pleasant View Communities, the Manheim Central Food Pantry, Baron Elementary, and Home on Ferdinand, and she has helped to serve dinners at Salem United Methodist Church. Some of her favorite activities have been caroling at Pleasant View, volunteering at the Brittany's Hope Christmas event, and hosting games for the mother-son night at the elementary school. Daniela plans to attend college to study biological science and minor in public health with the goal of attending medical school and becoming a pediatrician.
