Series to showcase arthouse films

The Appell Center for the Performing Arts, 50 N. George St., York, will present Image, Sound and Silence, a new arthouse film series, at the Capitol Theatre

This series will explore pivotal film movements like Iranian New Wave, French New Wave and Italian Neorealism featuring films going back to the late 1920s and up to the early 2000s and celebrating national film traditions from around the globe and filmmakers who have made far-reaching impressions on world cinema. The series was curated by Appell Center programming assistant and resident film expert Robert Delaney.

The films will be shown on select Sundays at 3 p.m. The films and dates are "Where Is the Friend's House?" on Feb. 25, "Late Spring" on March 10, "Cleo from 5 to 7" on April 14, "In the Mood for Love" on May 5, "Bicycle Thieves" on June 9 and "The Passion of Joan of Arc" on June 23.
