Sheriff's Office posts new hires, promotions

The Chester County Sheriff's Office hired five new deputies and promoted another to the rank of corporal.

The agency welcomed Deputy Nicholas Fernandez, recipient of the Police Academy's Physical Conditioning Award; Deputy Angel Chimal Rodriguez, recipient of the Police Academy's Academic Achievement Award; and Deputy Ernesto Pinda. These three deputies completed their training at the Delaware County Community College's Police Academy and demonstrated exceptional skills and dedication to law enforcement.

The agency also hired Deputy Brett Popiny, who transferred from Telford Borough Police Department with over a decade of experience in law enforcement, and recognized Kiri Burgos, who has been with the agency for two years, for being promoted from security operator to deputy. Kelly McGonigal, who has been with the Sheriff's Office for four years, has been promoted from deputy to corporal. These promotions reflect the officers' dedication and contributions to the mission and vision of the Sheriff's Office.

Since the new administration took office, it has hired 20 new staff members. The office has also implemented an aggressive recruitment and retention plan with the goal of attracting the best deputies in the county as well as expanding its digital presence to recruit via social media so it can reach a broader and more diverse pool of candidates.
