The Sierra Club - Lancaster Group is gearing up for its Polar Bear 5K Trail Run/Hike and is seeking volunteers for a variety of tasks. The annual race is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, in Lancaster County Central Park, 1050 Rockford Road, Lancaster.

Planning committee and race day volunteers are needed to help with marketing, advertising and promotion, logistics and parking, prizes, food and beverages, registration communications, and volunteer coordination.

The planning committee will meet on the second Thursday of each month from September through December at 6:30 p.m. in the food court area of Wegmans, 2000 Crossings Blvd., Lancaster. To volunteer or to learn more about the race, contact the co-chairs at bkyki@yahoo.com or jimsmeenan@gmail.com.

Profits from the race will support the group's Green Grant Program, which provides financial assistance to local environmentally focused organizations. Currently, the program awards grants of up to $500 per organization in support of educational programs, rain gardens, bat boxes, stream erosion repair and prevention, tree planting, garden-to-table projects, and native plant gardens and meadows.
