Silent Auction To Offer Gift Baskets, Sports Items And More

While registration has closed for the Honey Brook Lions Club golf outing, the public can still participate in a silent auction that will offer bidders a chance to win a variety of items ranging from sports tickets and memorabilia to gift baskets and passes to local attractions.

The second annual Curtis R. Mimm Memorial Golf Outing will be held at Honeybrook Golf Club, 1422 Cambridge Road, Honey Brook, on Monday, June 6, and the silent auction will run from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. that day. Items will be displayed in the golf course pavilion. Proceeds will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Among the auction items are tickets to the Reading Phillies and Gretna Theatre in Mount Gretna, a free portrait session with a professional photographer, a tour and tasting at the Pennsylvania Distilling Company in Malvern and a trip certificate from Northbrook Canoe Company in West Cheser.

Gift certificates that will be available will include Urban Air Adventure Trampoline and Park in Downingtown; Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square; Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library in Winterthur, Del.; Angry Jack's Axe Throwing Club in Exton; and Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster.

"We also have donations from two local companies that recently started - Calabash Coffee and Vanilla Paradise. (The owner of Vanilla Paradise) makes Madagascar vanilla extract," said auction organizer Deb Elmer, who is friends with Lions Club members Jim and Marcy Mimm.

Also on the auction block will be a "Hit the Beach" gift basket, which includes a beach towel, games, flip-flops and a sand cupholder, and a "Spring Is Here" basket with seeds, starter pots, a trowel, a garden flag with a pole and gardening gloves.

Other featured items include a Wolfgang Puck toaster and a hockey puck autographed by James van Riemsdyk of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Elmer noted that the club began soliciting donations for the silent auction in February. Each year, the golf outing has included a silent auction to benefit suicide awareness/prevention programs.

Proceeds from the golf outing will benefit the Lions Club, which supports many local organizations, including the Honey Brook Community Library and the Honey Brook Fire Company. The club also sponsors a Leo Club at Twin Valley middle and high schools, as well as Honey Brook Boy Scout Troop 9 and Cub Scout Pack 9, which meet at its community center.

The club supports charities at the district level and the international level, and it collects eyeglasses as part of a Lions Club International program. In addition, the club presents an annual Halloween Parade, a Breakfast With Santa and an Easter egg hunt.
