Singer and Pianist Plan Concert

Juilliard-trained baritone James Martin, chair of the voice department at Dickinson College, and Lynn Raley, associate professor of piano at Millsaps College, will perform in concert on Sunday, April 12, at 3 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 301 St. Thomas Road, Lancaster.

The program will consist of songs by well-known American composers such as H.T. Burleigh, Moses Hogan, Hall Johnson, Florence Price, Margaret Bonds, Tom Cipullo, Richard Hundley, Lee Hoiby, Leonard Bernstein, Chris DeBlasio, and David Amram. It will also include local composer and pianist Maria Thompson Corley's song cycle "The Convex Beauty of Sailing Souls." The texts, by Corley's late brother, Terence Thompson, were found among Terence's papers as Corley's mother was downsizing in preparation for a move to Pennsylvania. Terry, a published poet, died in 1988, two months after his 25th birthday. Last September, Martin and Raley premiered the cycle as part of the Village Trip Festival at St. John's in the Village in New York City.

The concert is free, and an offering will be received for the St. Thomas Mission and Outreach ministry.
