Single Mothers' Conference Planned

The 14th annual Chester County Single Mothers' Conference, which is free to all single moms and includes free child care, will be held on Saturday, April 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Oscar Lasko YMCA and Childcare Center, 1 E. Chestnut St., West Chester. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m.

The theme of this year's conference, organized by the Chester County Community Collaborative, is "Empowered Futures." Breakfast, snacks, and lunch will be provided, and parking is free. Children will receive supervised care in a camp-like setting while moms participate in their activities.

Six workshops will focus on topics such as careers, responsibilities of homeowners, relationships, and finances, and one-on-one consultations related to custody and child support will be available. The conference will also include chair massages, facials, sound baths, and vision boards. Local nonprofits and small businesses will be represented in the Community Connections area from noon to 2:30 p.m. Moms will receive commemorative gifts, door prizes from Community Connections, and pantry staples provided by the West Chester Food Cupboard.

In addition, conference organizers will present the Belinda Harrison Award, named in memory of a woman who overcame obstacles to serve as a role model for her children, a mentor to many, and a leader in her community.

To register by Wednesday, April 8, visit http://www.singlemotherscc.org. Additional volunteers and sponsors are sought.

The Oscar Lasko YMCA is providing the space free of charge, and Health Partners Plans is a major financial sponsor.
