Single Mothers' Conference set

The 2024 Chester County Single Mothers' Conference, which is free to all single moms and includes free childcare and lunch, will be held on Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Oscar Lasko YMCA and Childcare Center, 1 E. Chestnut St., West Chester.

The Chester County Single Mothers' Conference is organized by the Chester County Community Collaborative and sponsored by Benchmark Federal Credit Union.

The theme of the 2024 Chester County Single Mothers' Conference is "Gold Medal Moms" in honor of this year's summer Olympics. According to conference co-chairs Guillermina Rios and Shavon Phipps, single moms face challenges not unlike the physical, mental and financial ones faced by Olympic athletes.

Programming at the conference will focus on various aspects of the lives of single mothers, including health, family, child care, legal aid, finance, self-care, work wardrobe and nutrition. Attendees will learn about local community resources, while enjoying lunch and snacks. There will also be free workshops.

Also during the event, the Belinda Harrison Award will be issued, honoring a working single mom who has overcome adversity and is active in her community.
