SNHA Schedules Winter Activities

Susquehanna National Heritage Area (SNHA) will host a variety of winter events. Events are open to the community.

Tadpole Time! will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 8. Children ages 2 to 5 will participate in a fun variety of nature-themed, early childhood education activities and a story time at Columbia Crossing, 41 Walnut St., Columbia. The program will explore rocks and geology. There is a nominal fee per child, with no cost for residents of Columbia.

A program on "Native Winters" will be presented by Paul Nevin, director of the Zimmerman Center, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18. The program will be held in the Susquehannock Gallery at the Zimmerman Center for Heritage, 1706 Long Level Road, Wrightsville, followed by a guided trek to Native Lands County Park where the last traditional settlement of the Susquehannock people stood. Participants will learn how a winter season long ago was not just endured, but also enjoyed. Space is limited, and there is a cost to attend.

In honor of Valentine's Day, when two Sunset Cruise gift certificates are purchased, the buyer will also receive two complimentary red and white roses to share with the one they love. Each gift certificate can be redeemed for one ticket on a Sunset Cruise during SNHA's 2023 River Discovery Tour season. Red and white roses symbolize the cities of Lancaster and York and the beauty of the Susquehanna National Heritage Area. Roses may be picked up during business hours at the Zimmerman Center on Sunday, Feb. 12, through Valentine's Day, Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Susquehanna National Heritage Area is planning to replace the rocking chairs on the Riverview Deck at Columbia Crossing. The poly rocking chairs are available for sponsorship or dedication. A plaque will be placed on the header board of the chair to recognize the sponsor. There will only be 10 rockers. The cost of a sponsorship gift is tax-deductible to the extent that is allowed under the law.
