Society To Host Guest Speaker

The Mount Joy Area Historical Society will host guest speaker Robert Hoffman at its meeting on Monday, April 18, at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at Cemetery Road Schoolhouse, 120 Fairview St., Mount Joy. The meeting is free and open to the public.

Hoffman, best friend of Maj. Richard D. Winters, will present memories of Winters, a local hero, who was an officer in the United States Army and a decorated war veteran. Winters is best known for having commanded Easy Company of the 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 101st Airborne Division, during World War II. He was featured in the book "Band of Brothers" and the HBO movie of the same name.

The society's building is open to the public every Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. The public is invited to stop by to conduct research and view the many displays of Mount Joy memorabilia. To learn more, visit http://www.mountjoyhistory.com.
