Solanco Inducts Hall-Of-Famers

Solanco inducted Emily Allport, Derek Jennings, Todd Long, Mark Musselman, Donald Sample, and Jack Sensenig into the Hall of Fame prior to the football team's win over Muhlenburg on Sept. 10.

Allport, Class of 2012, earned eight varsity letters, four for basketball and four for track and field. On the basketball court, she was a 1,000-point scorer and was part of three section title-winning teams. She placed sixth in the high jump at the 2012 state track meet. She attended James Madison University, graduating in 2017 with a degree in communications and creative advertising. She currently resides in Colorado Springs.

Jennings, Class of 2004, ran cross-country and track, earning four varsity letters in each sport. He was a four-time first-team All-League cross-country runner, a four-time top-five medalist at the league championship meet, and a four-time PIAA state qualifier. He set a number of course records and was part of two Lancaster-Lebanon League cross-country championship teams.

On the track, Jennings set the record in the 1600-meter run and was a six-time league medalist, a 3200-meter run league champion, and an eight-time district qualifier in the 1600- and 3200-meter runs.

He is the head track and field coach at McCaskey High School and is also the founder and head coach of the Lancaster City Track Club. He lives in Lancaster with his wife and two children.

Long coached several sports at Solanco. He was head baseball coach from 1990 to 2000, with the team earning a league championship in 1995. Long was also an assistant coach for the football team from 1989 to 2002 and for the boys' basketball team from 1990 to the mid-2000s, with the teams winning several championships.

Long retired from the Solanco School District after 34 years of service. He and his wife, who live in Lancaster, have two daughters.

Musselman, Class of 1976, earned three varsity letters in track and field. During his junior season, he set the school record in the long jump and was a District III silver medalist in the long jump. The team was undefeated his senior season, during which he was part of the 800-meter relay and mile relay teams that set school records. He was undefeated in dual meets in the long jump that year.

Musselman and his wife live in New Providence and have three children.

Sample, Class of 1949, earned three varsity letters in basketball and four in baseball. During his senior season, he was the basketball team's leading scorer and was the 10th-leading scorer in the county. In the summer of 1946, Donald participated in the first Midget Baseball tournament in Lancaster County, with his team, New Providence, claiming the championship.

After high school, Sample played junior league baseball and City/County League baseball, and he managed Midget/Midget baseball and the Dottie's Snack Bar softball team. He also was a girls' softball umpire for 25 years. He joined the Navy in 1951.

He and his wife live in Willow Street and have two daughters and five grandsons.

Sensenig, Class of 1967, was a member of the football, basketball, and baseball teams throughout high school. He was named Athlete of the Year in 1967 and played in the East-West All-Star Football Classic. He quarterbacked the football team during its first winning seasons in 1965 and 1966 and was the basketball team's leading scorer and rebounder, being named the team's MVP during the 1966 and 1967 seasons. He played center field for the baseball team that won the section championship in 1965 and 1966.

He and his wife live in Drumore. They have a son, a daughter, and five grandchildren.
