Soul Sanctuary to present concert

The Trust Performing Arts Center will welcome Soul Sanctuary for an afternoon performance on Sunday, Oct. 29.

Set for 3 p.m. at The Trust's Great Hall, 37 N. Market St. in downtown Lancaster, Soul Sanctuary's repertoire will include original arrangements by Maria Thompson Corley of "His Eye Is on the Sparrow," "Wade in the Water" and others. Soul Sanctuary consists of Thompson Corley on piano, soprano Maria Clark and guest cellist Sara Male.

Tickets are available at http://www.lancastertrust.com or http://www.lbc.edu/events.

For Soul Sanctuary's 2022 album of spirituals, which hit No. 27 on Amazon's "Best Seller for New Classical Music List," Clark and Thompson Corley navigated the emotion, scars of suffering and religious passion in the hymns and gospels. Featuring selections from the past two centuries, the duo brings to life religious songs that have stood the test of time and are still relevant today.

Clark is a soprano and a senior lecturer of vocal studies at Spelman College and Emory University. She has been acclaimed for her singing in opera, oratorio and art song, and has performed with opera companies and symphony orchestras around the world.

Jamaican-born and Canadian-raised Thompson Corley's music has been commissioned, performed, recorded and taught by numerous musicians in the United States and abroad. Her work has been featured in films and on television soundtracks, as well as on radio and digital platforms, nationally and internationally. She currently resides in Lancaster.
