Laiken Spahr of Strasburg was among the graduate and undergraduate students recognized at the Honors Convocation at Frostburg State University in Maryland on May 22.

Spahr, who received departmental honors in sociology, was scheduled to graduate with a double major in sociology and political science. As part of her undergraduate work, she gained experience in the field as an intern at a nonprofit agency working with at-risk youths.

Outside of the classroom, Spahr excelled in gymnastics as a member of the acrobatics and tumbling team, and she was named to the all-MEC team. She is considering attending graduate school and pursuing a career in law enforcement or parole and probation, preferably working with juveniles.
