Speaker To Highlight Trains, Trolleys

Trains and trolleys that ran in Lancaster County will be highlighted during an open house of the Manheim Historical Society on Railroad Avenue on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 2 p.m.

The presenter will be Stan Bowman, author of the books "The Trolleys of Chester County" and "The Trolleys of Pottstown, PA." Bowman was born in Philadelphia, and growing up in Delaware County, he rode all four of the Red Arrow Suburban Trolley lines. He is a member of the National Railway Historical Society and the East Penn Traction Club. He was also a high school math teacher for 34 years. Copies of "The Trolleys of Pottstown, PA" will be available for purchase at the open house.

The Manheim Historical Society railroad station will be open every third Sunday through September for tours of the iron and glass artifacts from Henry William Stiegel from 1 to 4 p.m. The Keath and Fasig houses will be open on the third Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. and the first Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. through September. Presentations and tours are free and open to the public. Walking tours and outdoor demonstrations are subject to cancellation in the case of rain.
