When it came time to schedule their spring book sale, the Friends of the Elizabethtown Public Library decided to try something different this year. Rather than a few days with limited categories of items for sale, the group has expanded the sale to a full week and a wide variety of genres. The spring book sale will be held from Monday, March 27, through Saturday, April 1, in the lower level of the library, 10 S. Market St., Elizabethtown. Monday will be a preview night from 2 to 7 p.m., with a small admission charge for nonmembers. Hours on Tuesday, March 28, and Thursday, March 30, will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Hours on the additional dates will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"If you come for the preview night, you not only get first choice of everything we have for sale, but you also have the opportunity to join the Friends," said Laurie Shaffer, book sale co-chair along with Janet Hench. "The admission charge buys you a Friends membership, and you will get a membership card that will give you a year-round discount in the Friends' bookstore at the library." She noted the Friends members also have a variety of volunteer opportunities throughout the year, including working at the bookstore or sorting books for upcoming sales.

At the spring book sale, there will be a wide range of categories of books, Shaffer stated. "We'll have adult hardback and paperback fiction, children's hardback and paperback books, adult nonfiction, history, biography and cookbooks," she remarked. "We'll also have CDs and DVDs for sale."

One hundred percent of the proceeds are donated to the library and are used for operational expenses. Shaffer noted that everything is priced to sell at the spring sale, and she invited everyone to come out and browse the selection. "We will have something for everyone," she said.
