Spring cleanup will make Manheim shine

Do you have pride in your community? Consider making time to help with a Manheim community cleanup. People are invited to pitch in on Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to noon.

"We'll meet at the gazebo in Market Square, and we'll work with Manheim Borough to cover as many projects as we can in the time allotted," said Kristie Schmid, executive director for the Manheim Area Chamber of Commerce. "We'll focus on Market Square first and work out from there."

The cleanup has been held for several years, organized by the Manheim Young Professionals. "It is now being organized by the Chamber's Community Team, under the direction of Theresa Albright and Khalee Kreider," Schmid shared. "We take great pride in our community and keeping it clean, and freshening it up for upcoming events is a top priority."

She noted that there are several community events planned in and around the square in the coming months. "The largest event will be the Baron Brew Fest on Saturday, May 18, from 3 to 6 p.m.," she said. "It's held right in Market Square and brings a huge out-of-town crowd. This is a great opportunity for us to showcase our beautiful square." Projects like the community cleanup keep Manheim looking its best, she commented.

She hopes to get a good turnout for the cleanup, noting that many hands make light work. "The more people that come out, the further reach we'll have," she said. "This is a great activity for families to give back together."

The community cleanup will be held rain or shine. Gloves will be supplied, but volunteers are asked to bring rakes, shovels and wheelbarrows if possible. A&M Pizza will provide complimentary pizza slices to all volunteers when the work is completed.

Registration is not required to participate in the cleanup, but it is helpful, so organizers know how many people to expect. To register, visit the Chamber's event calendar at http://www.manheimchamber.com.
