St. Mark's Church To Host Fall Fest

St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 5 Brooke Manor, Birdsboro, will present its annual Fall Fest on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Highlights will include live music; homemade food; and activities for children, including a moon bounce, a Kiddie Train Ride and a cake walk.

To replace the silent auction held in previous years, there will be a random drawing for prizes, including a handmade quilt donated by church member Tina Rohrbach. "She donates a quilt every year. (This year's quilt) has a fall theme," noted church member Sally Sassaman.

Also available through a random drawing will be more than 50 gift baskets, featuring items donated by church members and the community. Available will be a movie basket, a snack basket, pet baskets and a pampering basket with personal care items. There will also be special baskets just for children to win. Basket winners will be announced at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Outside the church building, there will be vendors and children's games as well as booths set up by representatives from community groups, including the Birdsboro-Union Fire Department and the Reading Police Department's K-9 unit.

The basket drawing will take place inside, as well as a new attraction. "There is a new virtual roller coaster ride, which will be inside on the stage," noted festival coordinator Monica Dorian. "We will have a screen set up, and it looks like you are on a roller coaster."

Music will be provided throughout the day by Dave Kline and the Report, Threefold Blessing and The Strings of Praise.

Food offered for sale will include street corn, chicken wings, funnel cakes, hand-cut fries, fried Oreos and fresh-squeezed lemonade.

As part of its mobile food ministry, the church recently acquired its own food truck, which will offer food items for sale at the event, including pulled pork sandwiches. "Pastor (Jim Farnsworth) takes it to people that need food," Sassaman said, noting the food truck also offers items for sale during the Birdsboro Farmers Market.
