St. Mark's sets Ash Wednesday event and more

St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 27 E. Main St., Mount Joy, will observe Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14, with the Seven Symbols of Ash, based on a book by the Rev. Chris Paavola. The Seven Symbols of Ash is an interactive prayer journey through seven prayer stations that illustrate how the concept of ash is used in the Bible to symbolize grief, shame and repentance. An eighth station offers Communion.

This self-guided prayer walk will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. in the church sanctuary, and organizers anticipate that people will spend 20 to 30 minutes moving through the stations. The experience is open to the community, and children are welcome. Guidebooks will be available.

Additionally, the church will serve a beef stroganoff dinner on Sunday, Feb. 18, with curbside pickup from 4 to 5 p.m. Along with beef, the dinner will include a vegetable, a roll and butter, applesauce, and a dessert.

The meal is free. To make reservations by noon on Monday, Feb. 12, people should call 717-653-5493, ext. 270, and give their name and phone number as well as the number of meals they are requesting.
