St. Mark's UMC sets holiday activities

St. Mark's United Methodist Church (UMC), 27 E. Main St., Mount Joy, has posted its Holy Week and Easter activities.

The church will observe Maundy Thursday on March 28 with a service of washing and Communion at 7 p.m. Participants will be invited to have their hands washed, with water poured over their hands, in memory of Jesus washing his disciples' feet at the Last Supper. In turn, participants will be encouraged to reciprocate by washing the hands of other worshippers.

Handwashing will be done in the back of the sanctuary. At the midpoint of the service, participants will move into the pews for Communion around a common table.

At the end of the service, the altar table will be stripped, with all candles and paraments and the Bible removed, and a black cloth will be draped over the table in preparation for Good Friday.

The annual community Easter egg hunt for children will be held on Saturday, March 30, at 10 a.m. Attendees should bring a basket for collecting eggs on the playground fronting East Main Street. In the case of rain, the egg hunt will be held inside the church.

The church will host a combined Easter Sunday worship service at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 31. Music by the chancel choir, bell choir, and worship team will be featured, along with the Faith Factory Children's Choir and sacred dance groups.

The parking lot is located off Appletree Alley. For more information, call the church at 717-653-5493, ext. 222; visit http://connectstmarks.com or http://facebook.com/ConnectStMarks; or search for "St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Mount Joy, PA" on YouTube.
