St. Matthew's Sets Sale, Spring Fair

St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and St. Matthew's Preschool and Kindergarten will hold two special events in May, including a spring consignment sale and Spring Fair. Both events will take place at the church, 2440 Conestoga Road (Route 401), Chester Springs.

The spring consignment sale will be held on Saturday, May 1, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A 50%-off sale will start at 11 a.m. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted for payment at the sale.

Items available will include gently used games, puzzles and toys, as well as outdoor play toys, ride-ons, bicycles, CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, books, baby equipment and strollers. "We will have over 75 consignors for this sale," said Sandy Elkins, preschool director. "We will be following all current COVID guidelines as outlined by the CDC and the Chester County Health Department. We will be limiting the number of shoppers in the building and will require masks be worn at all times when at the event. We will do our best to make the experience a safe and pleasant one for our shoppers and our volunteers."

Clothing will be sorted by size and gender for newborns through size 16/juniors. "We will have spring- and summer-related clothing and accessories, including shorts, light jackets, spring dresses and more for boys and girls," said Elkins. Also offered will be accessories, sporting goods and footwear.

All items not sold at the sale that consignors want to donate will be given to local nonprofit organizations.

Unsold toys, sporting goods, bathing suits, dance items, home decor items and electronics will be given to the Military Order of the Purple Heart, with proceeds to benefit the National Federation of the Blind. Leftover children's clothing, small toys, infant's items and school supplies will be donated to Cradles to Crayons, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit organization that provides supplies to children through age 12 who are homeless or are members of low-income families.

St. Matthew's Spring Fair will be held on Saturday, May 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All activities will be especially designed for children ages 2 to 7. There will be games, children's crafts, touch-a-truck, a moon bounce, a balloon magician, music, a roaming musician, food trucks, demonstrations and an opportunity to win gift baskets.

In addition, Cradles to Crayons will be on hand to collect new and gently used baby and children's clothing, toys and outerwear.

All attendees will be asked to wear a mask. "We hope this event will give families an opportunity to get out and have fun in a safe environment," Elkins said.

An entry fee will be charged for children over the age of 2. Adults will be admitted for free. The rain date is Saturday, May 22.

All money raised from both events will support St. Matthew's Preschool and Kindergarten.
