STEM Alliance and Goodhart Sons Host Educator Externship

The Lancaster County STEM Alliance (LCSA) partnered with Goodhart Sons Inc., a fourth-generation family-owned industrial fabricator and installer, to host a hands-on Educator Externship designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world career opportunities in the skilled trades.

The experience, held on Sept. 12, welcomed educators from across Lancaster County into the heart of Goodhart Sons' operations, where they explored the company's welding, fabrication, rigging, millwright and project management services. From touring expansive fabrication facilities to engaging directly with tradespeople and project support personnel, teachers gained firsthand exposure to the skills, collaboration and innovation that drive industrial projects forward locally and nationwide.

Educators walked away with a deeper understanding of how technical skills and work ethic translate into meaningful careers and how they can bring that message into their own classrooms. Participants also discovered ways to better engage students in STEM, technical education and career pathways that do not always require a four-year degree.

The event emphasized the importance of early career awareness and community-based collaboration to ensure Lancaster County students see the full range of opportunities available to them.

This externship builds on the momentum of previous LCSA partnerships with regional industry leaders such as Rock Lititz, CNHi, Eurofins, Advanced Cooling Technologies (ACT) and Lancaster Farming. To learn more or get involved, visit http://www.lancasterstem.org.
