Strawberry Sundae Talent Show will support mission trip

Enjoy a sweet treat and follow it up with some sweet entertainment at Salem United Methodist Church's annual Strawberry Sundae Talent Show. The event will be held on Sunday, June 4, at the church, 140 N. Penn St., Manheim. An ice cream social will run from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by the talent show starting at 6:30 p.m.

"The strawberries we use are picked locally," said Doug Winters, coordinator of the event. The berries will be served with ice cream and shortcakes, as well as various toppings. Drinks and pretzels will also be available.

The talent show will feature members of the congregation. Performers will include Mandy Sheetz, the handbell ensemble, Sandy White, Joyce Drake and Jack Rutt, Charlie and Doug Winters, Adelyne Trovinger, Tom Breneisen, Cody Grissinger and Fern Habecker and Frank Rittenhouse. Performances will include songs, a guitar solo, a skit, a dance and a piano and organ duet.

Admission to the event is by donation, and all proceeds will benefit a church mission trip. This year, a group will go to Prestonsburg, Ky., to complete work through Appalachia Service Project (ASP). The region where the group will be going, in Floyd County, Kentucky, experienced severe flooding last summer, Doug noted, adding that the group will most likely be helping to rebuild and restore damage from that. Doug added that this will be the 41st year that members of Salem Church have worked with ASP.

Doug, who has been coordinating the mission trip for more than 25 years, said not only does the Strawberry Sundae Talent Show offer a way to support the church and its mission work, but it also is a fun evening out. "There is a lot of variety in the talent show," he remarked. "It's always entertaining."
