Strength-training program set

Penn State Extension will offer an in-person, group-based strength-training program for adults age 40 and up. Lifelong Improvements through Fitness Together (LIFT) will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Jan. 9 to Feb. 29 from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m., 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., or 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster.

A free informational meeting will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 22, from 9 to 10 a.m. in the training room at the Farm and Home Center. All new registrants and returning registrants who have not participated since 2020 are required to attend. The deadline to register for the program is Nov. 22.

LIFT is designed to promote improvements in functional fitness or the ability to perform activities of daily living with ease. Participants are encouraged to work toward achieving their own goals in a group setting. Each session includes an active warmup, eight core strength-training exercises, and a cool down. The program also includes basic nutrition information with an emphasis on increased fruit and vegetable intake.

There is a fee. Some insurance policies may reimburse participants with 80% or greater attendance; people should check with their insurance provider for more information.

To register, call Registration Services at 877-345-0691 or visit https://extension.psu.edu/lift and select the eight-week class.
