Student receives award, joins honor society

Alyson Hand of Birdsboro was honored at the Student Life and Leadership Awards during the spring semester at Baldwin Wallace University, Berea, Ohio.Hand, a graduate of Daniel Boone Area High School majoring in arts management and entrepreneurship, received the Brain Center Student Volunteer of the Year Award. This accolade is given in recognition of participation in the Brain Center for Community Engagement programs, significant time spent serving in the community, and discernible contributions made to service programs and organizations.

Co-hosted by the Student Life Center and the Brain Center for Community Engagement, the Student Life and Leadership Awards recognize the co-curricular accomplishments and contributions of student leaders, faculty members, staff members, student organization advisers, student organizations, and programs that have made a positive impact on the university and surrounding communities.

Hand was also recently inducted into the Alpha Mu Zeta chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, International English Honor Society. A total of 20 students were inducted.

Sigma Tau Delta was founded in 1924 to confer distinction for high achievement in English language, literature, and writing in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies. To qualify for membership, Hand was required to complete at least two collegiate courses in English language or literature beyond the usual requirements in freshman English; have a minimum of a B or equivalent average in English and in general scholarship; rank in the top 35% of her class; and complete at least three semesters of college coursework.
