Students Honored For Fundraising Efforts

Four fifth-graders at South Hanover Elementary School were recently recognized by Lower Dauphin Communities That Care (LDCTC) and the Hummelstown Borough Police Department for doing the right thing last school year.

Isla Crozier, Elizabeth Smith, Morgan Armen and Monae Mitchell were nominated by fourth-grade teacher Shannon Guevaraz for organizing a fundraiser to benefit a local charity after reading an article about kids who have made a difference in the world. They raised over $300 to benefit a local foundation that supports individuals with autism, and their funds were matches by an anonymous donor.

The girls were recognized in front of their classmates at lunch, and each honoree was rewarded with a gift card to Target; a Do the Right Thing T-shirt, pencil and certificate; and a Papa John's pizza coupon. This month's program sponsor was Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home.

The Do the Right Thing program recognizes students in the Lower Dauphin community who have distinguished themselves through their accomplishments, attitude or outstanding efforts. For more information, contact LDCTC program director Angela Durantine at adurantine@ldsd.org.
