Students Honored For Good Deeds

Several Elizabethtown Area School District students were recently recognized in the Do the Right Thing program.

Donovan, Elise, and Susanna Fuddy, siblings in second, fourth, and eighth grades, respectively, were recognized for making masks, selling them to community members, and donating all the proceeds to the Community Cupboard of Elizabethtown. The siblings were able to donate $950.

Calob Donaldson, a second-grade student, was honored for calling for EMS assistance for a family member experiencing a health-related crisis.

Eighth-grade student Brianna Wolf was recognized for calling for help on behalf of another student who was experiencing a health emergency. Wolf also stayed with the student until help arrived.

Tyler Grubbs, a 10th-grade student, was commended for assisting teachers in his classroom, taking initiative in serving as a peer tutor, and helping other students in the classroom with technology needs.

Robert Walters, a 12th-grade student, was honored for helping another student who was experiencing a health crisis in school. Walters also helped to keep the student calm while help arrived.

The students' good deeds were acknowledged at ceremonies held recently at their respective schools, where they each received a certificate of recognition, a Do the Right Thing T-shirt, and a gift certificate.

Do the Right Thing is a national program, and locally it is a collaborative effort between Elizabethtown Area Communities That Care, the Elizabethtown police departments, and the Elizabethtown Area School District. The program seeks to recognize students in the community who have distinguished themselves through their accomplishments, attitude or outstanding efforts or who embody Steven Covey's Seven Habits. The program emphasizes random acts of kindness that otherwise may go unnoticed.

Any adult over the age of 18 can nominate a student. Nomination forms are available at http://www.eactc.org.

Elizabethtown Area Communities That Care is a community organization committed to improving the lives of children, youths, and families in the Elizabethtown area.
