The Elizabethtown Lions Club recently honored two Students of the Month from Lancaster County Career & Technology Center (LCCTC). This recognition honors students who have demonstrated exceptional work ethic, skill, and knowledge in their chosen field.

Aubrey Powell is the Student of the Month for October. Aubrey always saw herself as a hands-on learner, so she felt that LCCTC would be a good fit for her. She has always had an interest in automotive work and started in the Introduction to Transportation program at the LCCTC campus in Mount Joy in her junior year. At one point, Powell thought her interest in cars might lead to a career in the automotive industry, but after doing research, she decided to explore welding. She enrolled in the Welding Technology program at Mount Joy campus of LCCTC for her senior year. She has been involved in the Student Ambassador Leadership program at the Mount Joy campus for the last two years. Powell hopes to seek an Advanced Placement Internship (API) or co-op position in welding and work in the industry.  

Maryjane Van Arsdale, the daughter of Anthony Van Arsdale and Samantha McCauley of Bainbridge, is the Student of the Month for November. Her interest in welding was sparked when her father involved her in welding projects when she was growing up. As a result, she chose to attend LCCTC to study welding in her junior year. She chose to continue in precision machining for her senior year to expand her skill set, gain additional credentials, and increase her future opportunities within the welding field. Van Arsdale noted that she enjoys the artistic and creative outlet that welding provides. She has been involved in the Student Ambassador Leadership program at the Mount Joy LCCTC campus for the last two years. She was recently named president of the Mount Joy campus's chapter of SkillsUSA, an organization in which she is also very involved at LCCTC. Van Arsdale plans to work in the welding field, possibly starting in an API or co-op position soon.
