Students Receive Recognition

Lampeter-Strasburg High School teachers recognized senior Lana Dyer and senior Ben Wert as the Pioneer Superlatives for November, along with junior Cozette Maines and senior Rocco Coates as the Students of the Month for November.

Lana is the daughter of Steve and Tamara Dyer of Lancaster. The English department nominated Lana for her hard work, conscientiousness, and work ethic. Lana is the president of the concert choir and the drama club and the vice president of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. She is also a member of the full orchestra, the marching band, the casts of the fall play and spring musical, National Honor Society, Link Crew, and High School Heroes. She has represented Lampeter-Strasburg as the 2022 West Lampeter fair queen alternate, a 2021 Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) participant, and an attendee at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA).

Lana auditioned and earned spots in this year's county, district, and regional choirs and was the Class of 2023's Burrowes Scholar in vocal music. Her photography and writing have earned her a National Silver Medal, several Gold Keys, and honorable mentions. Since seventh grade, Lana has entered and received recognition each year in the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen and Conservationists' annual photography competition. She plans to attend college to pursue various interests, including music education and international relations.

Ben is the son of Byron and Johnette Wert of Lancaster. The social studies department nominated Ben for his consistent hard work and excellent analytical writing skills. Ben is a member of the varsity basketball team and the Inter-Club Council. He has been listed on the honor roll. Ben plans to attend college to continue his education and continue playing basketball.

Cozette is the daughter of Kim Maines of Lancaster. An honor roll student, she was nominated by several departments for her hard work, responsibility, and kind-heartedness. Cozette plans to pursue a career as a nurse after graduation.

Rocco is the son of Bob and Shannon Coates of Strasburg. The English department nominated him for his kind, thoughtful manner and genuine interest in learning. At school, he is the secretary of the drama club and a member of the marching band, the concert band, Link Crew, the stage crew, and the Thespian Society. He has consistently been an honor roll student throughout high school. Rocco plans to pursue a career as a biologist or lab technician.
