Summer craft ideas
Summer is a prime time for outdoor fun such as swimming and camping. When the weather is accommodating, there is a seemingly endless list of ways to enjoy time outdoors. However, summer weather can be unpredictable and often features thunderstorms and rain. Parents may want to keep craft supplies at the ready to offer indoor fun.
A wide variety of crafts can be made, such as friendship bracelets. With some general craft supplies, like embroidery thread, beads, plastic lanyards, or other jewelry-making materials, kids can make bracelets to share.
Families may evoke the feelings of summer camp at home with leather sewing kits that enable everyone to make handcrafted leather wallets or small purses.
Dyed shoes or accessories are another craft option. Families may use commercially produced or homemade dyes crafted from tea bags, berry juice, turmeric powder, or more to color items. People may dress up canvas sneakers with summertime hues or make colorful bandanas to help keep them cool.
Families can gather items from the natural world during favorable weather to use during their next indoor craft session. With twigs and feathers, along with yarn, crafters can make dreamcatchers to hang beside their bed. Kids can gather smooth pebbles from trails or the shores of lakes; the stones may be painted with various designs or sweet sentiments and may be left around the neighborhood for others to discover.
During a beach excursion, people may pick up differently shaped shells, which they can later paint and glue together to resemble different animals or whatever designs they imagine. They may also gather sea glass remnants that washed up on the beach. At home, an adult can use a thin drill bit to make holes in the sea glass remnants, which can be fed through earring hooks or chains to create one-of-a-kind jewelry.
Natural items can also be used to make sun prints. People may visit a craft store to purchase a light-sensitive solution that can be painted onto thick craft paper. On a sunny day, they may set various natural items - such as fern leaves, shells, and feathers - on top and let the sun create silhouettes of the items.
Plenty of summer craft options are available to keep families entertained all season long.
