Avoid the Sunday night blues and wrap up your weekend with an entertaining evening when the Mount Joy Area Chamber of Commerce hosts Music in Memorial Park. The concert series will be held on Sundays, July 26, Aug. 2 and Aug. 9, at the park, 101 Marietta Ave., Mount Joy. Food trucks will start serving at 5 p.m., and the music will begin at 5:30 p.m.

"End your weekend on a high note with live music in Memorial Park," said Michele Emenheiser, executive director of the Chamber. "It's the perfect way to relax before the week ahead."

The concert series will kick off on July 26 with music from The Chestnuts and food by the Spud Muffin food truck. On Aug. 2, Whiskey Rose will entertain, with food provided by Piper Belles BBQ. The series will wrap up with a performance by The Malta Band on Aug. 9. At that concert, free hot dogs and ice cream will be available while supplies last. The hot dogs are provided courtesy of Denny Brandt; Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Homesale Realty; and Greg Sallade, State Farm, and the ice cream is provided courtesy of the Ginder family.

"In honor of Mount Joy's 175th anniversary, each of the bands has a Mount Joy connection," Emenheiser shared. "People will have to come to the concerts to see what that is!"

The Chestnuts will entertain with classic songs from country, rock, folk and blues, she said. Whiskey Rose will present a concert of classic and Southern rock hits. The Malta Band will perform a variety of music, from concert band pieces and classic marches to popular tunes.

The concerts are made possible by sponsors including townlively.com, Members 1st Federal Credit Union, Sweet 16 WPDC and the members of the Mount Joy Area Chamber of Commerce.

Emenheiser said the concert series is fun for the whole family, with a casual and entertaining atmosphere.

"One of the Chamber's goals is to connect businesses and the community. Music in Memorial Park gives people a chance to slow down, enjoy a summer evening and spend time together with friends and neighbors," she said. "We hope they leave with great memories and a greater appreciation for the businesses and organizations that help make events like this possible and contribute to what makes Mount Joy such a great place to live, work, play and shop."

The concerts will be held weather permitting. People should bring their own blankets or lawn chairs for the concerts. Handicapped-accessible parking spaces will be available along Delta Street, and a portable restroom will be set up behind the gazebo, courtesy of John Kline Septic Services.
