Support the library at a book sale and craft fair

Are your bookshelves looking a little bare? Bulk up your reading selections by shopping at the Friends of Elizabethtown Public Library's book sale. The sale will take place from Tuesday, Sept. 3, through Saturday, Sept. 7, at the library, 10 S. Market St., Elizabethtown.

"We have all categories of books at great prices," said Pat Casper, secretary of the Friends. "It's the perfect way to buy books at reasonable prices."

Tuesday's sale will run from 2 to 7 p.m. and will be open only to members of the Friends or anyone who pays the small entrance fee. "If you come on Tuesday, you get the first pick of our inventory, and you won't be disappointed," Casper shared. "We have so many absolutely beautiful books."

Categories will include adult hardback fiction, trade paperback fiction, regular paperback fiction, nonfiction, history, cookbooks and children's books. DVDs and CDs will also be for sale.

After Tuesday's preview event, the sale will continue with free admission from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 7.

The book sale helps the Friends group fulfill its mission to support the library. "The library is a community resource and so many people use it, whether they're coming in for books or to use a computer, visit the bookstore or the coffee shop or even get a passport," Casper said. "The library is for everyone."

The Friends group accepts donations for the book sale year-round, and volunteers also sort books year-round. The group is always looking for new members, who can sign up at the library or during the book sale. The Friends offer individual and family memberships.

Along with the book sale, the library will host its annual Craft Fair with a Small Business Flair on Sept. 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Sept. 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fair will feature a variety of vendors selling handmade items, including jewelry, upcycled crafts, doll clothes, holiday items, cards and gifts. This is the 15th year for the craft show, and proceeds benefit programs and operations of the library.
