Take A "Paws" Out Of Your Day For A Doggie Dip

If you live in the Solanco area, then you are probably familiar with the Southern End Community Association (SECA), 299 Park Ave., Quarryville. SECA's mission is to create recreational opportunities for residents of the Southern End by providing high-value programs for children and adults. And one day a year, it also caters to their dogs.

On Saturday, Sept. 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., SECA will host its annual Doggie Dip event. After SECA closes the pool to human swimmers for the season, SECA reopens it one day for residents to bring their dogs and enjoy an afternoon in the water. According to Kerns, the event has been going on for over 10 years.

"Out of all the things we do, this event provides one of the best environments because people and their dogs can socialize," stated Kerns. "Animals always put people in a better mood!"

The event is free to the public, but donations are encouraged. Dog treats and doggie bags will be provided. Kerns noted that dogs must be up to date on their vaccinations, and spectators are welcome to attend.

"This event is definitely something everyone looks forward to," said Esposito.

Although not required, preregistration can be completed by calling 717-806-0123 or emailing seca@epix.net. For more information, visit https://secarec.org/annual-doggie-dip/.

Prior to opening the pool this year, SECA made some facility updates. Courtesy of the donors who contributed to the SECA Pool Capital Campaign, a brand-new water slide was installed.

"The pool season has gone really, really well," said Rick Kerns. For the past two years, Kerns has served as director of SECA. "I think our pool has flourished because we were fully staffed. We also got a lot of compliments on the slide."

"This summer was really good for us," stated Celeste Esposito, administrative assistant at SECA. "In addition to the slide, we got a pool wheelchair this year, which I was super excited about since I have a daughter with special needs, so she was able to enjoy the pool."

"We'd like to thank everyone who came out this season," said Kerns. "We hope to see you all next summer!"
