Take A Stroll With Your Sweetheart

Alison Liebgott is a self-professed fan of Valentine's Day. So, the owner of Miss Alison's Studio in Columbia decided to take her love for the holiday out into the community. She's organizing a Romantic Stroll Through Park on Saturday, Feb. 13, from 3 to 5 p.m. in Columbia's Locust Street Park, Fifth and Locust streets.

"I'm doing this to spread the love," she stated. "This is my season. I'm such a nut when it comes to Valentine's Day. I love it. I'm trying to spread positive vibes."

For the event, she is inviting people to purchase a wooden heart, which she will then decorate with up to two names of loved ones.

"We'll smother the hearts in glitter, and then we'll hang them on trees throughout the park," she explained. "You can come with your honey, stroll through the park and hunt for your heart, take a picture of your heart and then take the heart home with you."

In addition to the hearts, the event will feature a variety of hot cocoa bombs and chocolate-covered strawberries for sale. There will also be a photo booth set up in the park's gazebo.

"We're encouraging people to take photos in the booth and enter our Best Dressed in Red contest," Liebgott said, adding that prizes will be awarded.

Liebgott opened her studio about two years ago and offers art and yoga classes. She came up with the idea for the stroll after Googling ideas for celebrating Valentine's Day and seeing similar events.

"We have such a great park with so many trees, I thought we could totally do this," she recalled. Proceeds from the heart sales will be split between paying for materials for the hearts and benefiting the Columbia Parks and Recreation department.

Liebgott emphasized that the event offers people a chance to do something romantic with their sweetheart and to celebrate being outdoors.

"This is just something fun to get people out to walk around a bit, to be a part of something," she stated. "It's a way to be around other people without being too close to them. We wanted to offer something social that wasn't in an enclosed space."
