Taste of Mount Joy Cruisin' Cuisine to feature cars, food and fun

Start your engines and bring your appetite to the 20th annual Taste of Mount Joy Cruisin' Cuisine. The event will be held on Saturday, July 22, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. along Main Street in Mount Joy from New Haven to Barbara Street. Vehicles, including antique cars, classic cars, muscle cars, street rods, Corvettes, motorcycles and trucks, will be in the spotlight, and local restaurants will serve a variety of food.

In the past, Main Street Mount Joy had hosted the event, but when that organization disbanded earlier this year, a group of community volunteers stepped up to continue the show. "We have volunteers from the Kiwanis Club of Norlanco-Rheems, Mount Joy Rotary, Mount Joy Lions Club, Voyage Mount Joy and the Red Rose Antique Car Club," said Linda Eberly of the people who make up the event committee. "People in the community really came together to see this show continue." It was especially important to Linda, a member of the Kiwanis, because her father, Jay Eberly, was one of the show's founders. The first 200 registrants for the car show will receive a dash plaque featuring Jay's car, a 1933 Plymouth.

Approximately 50 awards will be presented in various categories, sponsored by local businesses, clubs and organizations, said Allory Melhorn, who represents Voyage Mount Joy on the committee. Whitmoyer Auto Group is the event's major sponsor. Additional sponsors include Marietta Notary & Messenger Service, Sheetz Funeral Home, State Farm Insurance and Drohan Brick & Supply. A Best of Show award will be sponsored by the cooperating event organizers, and five memorial awards will also be presented. Additional members of the event committee include Ferne Silberman and event chair Ron Carper, representing the Rotary Club; Harry Goehring, representing the Lions Club; Ken and Cathy Hoshauer, representing Red Rose Antique Car Club; and Gene Barton.

Area restaurants and food trucks will participate in the event, set up either at a food court area on Main and Delta streets or at their business location. Participants will include Bube's Brewery, which will serve barbecue sandwiches and chips; Isaac's Craft Kitchen & Brewery, serving walking hoagie dip, strawberry lemonade, pretzel bites and chips; Harvey's Main Street BBQ, which will provide Cajun sausage and pork barbecue; Frisco's Chicken, which will serve empanadas and chicha morada; Two Cousins Pizza; Rita's Italian Ice; the Rotary Club offering fries; the Lions Club selling hot dogs; and Florin Church of the Brethren, which will feature a variety of whoopie pies. Tables and chairs will be set up in the food court area, provided by JB Hostetter & Sons.

Prior to the car show, the Kiwanis Club will serve a free pancake breakfast at First Presbyterian Church, 7 Marietta Ave., from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

All cars must enter the show via the Lancaster County Career & Technology Center off Route 772 and Old Market Street, where registration and packet pickup will take place. Parking will begin at 9 a.m. There is a discount for people who preregister their vehicle by Friday, July 14, but same-day registration will also be available.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Friends of Donegal. The event will be held rain or shine. For more information, visit http://www.voyagemountjoy.com/tasteofmountjoy or call 717-951-1338.
