Tax Preparation Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed to offer free tax preparation to help working families and individuals receive the federal and state tax credits for which they are eligible. No previous experience is required, and training is provided.

Through Money in Your Pocket (MIYP), a program of United Way of the Capital Region, volunteers would prepare taxes for free for low- to moderate-income working individuals in Dauphin, Cumberland, and Perry counties. Nationally, the effort is known as the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, or VITA.

Volunteers will offer tax preparation services at designated sites in the capital region from late January through mid-April 2022 during day and evening hours. All volunteers will be trained to prepare computerized, electronic returns.

For those interested in learning more, several informational sessions will be held, both in-person and virtually. Virtual sessions will be held on Monday, Oct. 25, from 6 to 7 p.m. and on Thursday, Nov. 18, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. In-person sessions will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 20, from 6 to 7 p.m. at New Hope Ministries, 5228 E. Trindle Road, Mechanicsburg; on Tuesday, Oct. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Employment Skills Center, 29 S.
