Tel Hai Camp Sets Community Day

The Tel Hai Camp is hoping for some better weather for this year's Community Day event.

After a rainout last year, the camp is bringing its annual Community Day event back for 2026 on Saturday, June 13. Weather permitting, it will be the third event of its kind at the camp, located at 31 Lasso Drive, Honey Brook.

The camp is making a big change to this year's Community Day, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The camp's annual Makers Market, typically held as a stand-alone event, will be held in conjunction with Community Day this year.

"Our second year, I think we had about 250 people come throughout the day," said Bruce Gregory, program director at the Tel Hai Camp & Retreat. "We're hoping (the Makers Market) might draw more people."

There will be plenty of activities around the camp, including an on-site, 16-hole mini golf course, wagon rides, a dunk tank, boating, archery, a climbing wall and zip line, pony rides, an inflatable obstacle course and balloon animals by Immys Balloons.

"We have a big field over by our lake; that's where we'll do all the parking," Gregory said. "We'll have wagon rides that will shuttle them across to the main camp, if they would like."

The site also has a pool, as well as opportunities for fishing, crafts and face painting. All events, with the exception of the dunk tank, are free and open to the public.

The Makers Market, also open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the facility's gymnasium, will consist of various exhibitors displaying an array of merchandise for purchase.

There will be 14 vendors set up in the gymnasium, ranging from handcrafted greeting cards to antiques to soap and candles.

"We're hoping that through the mix of everyone roaming around and trying different activities, they'll also make a stop there and check out the vendors at the Makers Market," Gregory stated.

Lunch, consisting of hamburgers and chicken, will also be available at no cost in the dining hall. Outdoor picnic tables will also be available, as well as side dishes to be determined.

The camp is still searching for volunteers to help with parking and various different activities.

Tel Hai Camp & Retreat recently celebrated 75 years of camping ministry in 2025. According to the history of the camp, it was founded in 1950 and incorporated in 1951 as a nonprofit Christian camp.

The board of directors, comprising members of churches in Berks, Lancaster and Chester counties, developed a camp program for children and purchased a farm north of Beaver Dam Road in Honey Brook, where the camp has been located since 1956. In 1996, another 40 acres were added to the east end of the site.

The camp is viewing Community Day as a great way to increase the camp's visibility.

"We're looking to just open up to the local community," Gregory said. "We're trying to get community involvement here ... just letting everyone have a fun day that they can come out and enjoy as a family."
