The Return Of River Heritage Day

For the past 20 years, the Blue Rock Heritage Center (BRHC), 2251 River Road, Washington Boro, has aimed to promote and conserve the history of the Lower Susquehanna River Valley area. To accomplish this goal, BRHC houses artifacts and brings attention to archaeological and historical resources, features, and buildings, also focusing on their relationship with and access to the local ecological systems.

On Saturday, Oct. 16, BRHC will host its 19th annual River Heritage Day. The event will take place at Washington Boro Park, 2010 River Road, Washington Boro, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Barry Lee, a bluegrass musician, will provide live entertainment; Mr. Balloony will perform; Jesse the Reptile Guy will give a presentation; and Raven Ridge Wildlife Center will make an appearance. Food, such as hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken corn soup, as well as beverages will be available for purchase. Additionally, there will be a Penn Manor FFA tractor pull, a kids' tractor pull, hayrides, barrel train rides, craft displays, and flea market vendors. Circle Legacy Center will offer demonstrations and crafts, and attendees will see antique cars, tractors, and equipment.

"People should attend to get out and to have fun," said Charlie Douts, president of BRHC.

Those interested in requesting an exhibit space for antique equipment, historic collections, and more can contact Doug Kramer at 717-808-4413 or doug.kramer@pennmanor.net. Artisans, craftspeople, and sellers of curiosities may contact Douts at 717-684-9542 or cdoutsjr@yahoo.com. The deadline to sign up for a space is Friday, Oct. 15.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the BRHC. Douts expressed gratitude to this year's sponsors: Arcing Rod & Gas, RETTEW, Turkey Hill, Interiors, RS Hollinger & Sons, Slaymaker Electric, R&B Line Opening Services, Quality Machine Repair, and LASA.
