The Intercourse Library will host its fifth annual Family Fun Day on Saturday, Aug. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the library, 31 Center St., Intercourse.

The event will offer free food and activities for families in the community. There will be yard games, rock painting, bubbles and a scavenger hunt, as well as free hot dogs and cookie decorating.

"Just a lot of activities for the kids, inside the library and outside," said Catherine O'Sullivan, library director.

In the past, the event was held earlier in the summer, around when schools let kids out for the summer. This was done to kick off the library's summer reading program. This year, the event will serve as a pseudo-finale for the summer and will celebrate the end of the summer reading program, which around 600 kids participated in this year.

"I was pretty excited about that," O'Sullivan said of the program's success. "Normally, (the event) would be the kickoff to summer reading, but we decided to do it toward the end of the program this year to celebrate the end of summer reading."

All the festivities at the event are free, with the exclusion of a book sale. Hot dogs and water have been supplied to the library by community sponsors such as Kitchen Kettle Village, Graybill Service Group and Stoltzfus Meats.

O'Sullivan is expecting around 150 attendees at the event, one that was first held in 2022. The library's board of trustees will be at the event preparing food and helping with activities.

At the event, there will be flyers handed out for the library's 5K run, to be held in conjunction with Pretzel City Sports at the library on Saturday, Oct. 3.

O'Sullivan is inviting everybody in the Pequea Valley community to attend the event.

"Just come on by the library," she said. "Even if you didn't participate in summer reading, come and see what the library has to offer."
