Tour to highlight unique aspect of local history

Over the next seven months, the Lititz Historical Foundation will offer another one of its unique tours. The Lititz Whiskey and History Tour explores the relationship between the distilled spirit and the locale's culture-filled past.

"It's a unique way to share the history of Lititz," said Cory Van Brookhoven, president of the Lititz Historical Foundation. "Everyone has a great time."

The two-hour guided tour begins at the corner of Main and Broad Street in the borough and works its way east on Main Street. Along the way, visitors are treated to stories of local historic events, places and people, including the country's first commercial pretzel bakery, Lancaster County's first pharmacy, Lititz's first bank and the site of a Revolutionary War hospital.

The walking portion of the tour concludes at Linden Hall School for Girls. From there, tourists are guided to Stoll and Wolfe Distillery, 35 N. Cedar St., where they hear stories of whiskey and local distilling and enjoy tastings.

The tour is being offered on select Saturdays through October - May 11 and 25, June 8 and 22, July 13 and 27, Aug. 17 and 31, Sept. 14 and 28 and Oct. 12 and 26. Dates in March and April have already sold out.

There is a cost associated with the tour, and tickets can be reserved by clicking on the "book now" button at http://www.lititzhistoricalfoundation.com. Individuals must be 21 or older to take the tour.

"The highlight of the tour is learning about the history, the architecture of Lititz and the history of local distilling," said Van Brookhoven. "We're friends with the people who run Stoll and Wolfe, and they also love local history. We talked about the possibility of doing a tour, and everyone agreed it would be a good idea. People really enjoy this tour. They like the combination of history and the taste at the end. They fit together well."

The Lititz Whiskey and History Tour is one of six offered by the Lititz Historical Foundation as a way to highlight local history and raise funds for the nonprofit. The Whiskey and History Tour debuted in 2022 and was such a success that it was expanded this year.

"Each one is a little different," said Van Brookhoven. "This is like the other ones in that they're all about sharing our local history. We could probably add more tours."

He continued, "It's interesting to learn who was here in the past, what they were doing and how things have changed. And how things have stayed the same."
