Track Teams Find Success in League Meet

Donegal's track team celebrated several success stories at the LL League Championships held at Hempfield High School on May 14th and 15th.

Zach Nissley brought home a pair of medals, placing fourth in both the shot put (47-4.75) and the javelin (162-4).

Sophomore Faith Garber snatched a podium spot in the 200-meter dash, placing sixth with a time of 26.71, and in the 4x800 relay event, Donegal girls cruised to a seventh-place finish, clocking a time of 10:30.36, with legs run by Tabitha Clark, Emma Myers, Amanda Fry, and Hadley Shoaf.

"I was proud of the way our team performed on that kind of stage," praised head coach Bryce Sadler. "The team put a lot of time and energy into this season. I'm happy for the seniors who are ending with a solid finish, and I'm excited for the underclassmen to step up next year and find their roles."

For three Donegal athletes the post-season extended with a District III championship opportunity held at Shippensburg University on May 22nd. Nissley was slated to compete in both shot and javelin, Garber in the 200-meter dash, and Sarah Hinkel in the 300 hurdles.

Indian baseball concluded their season on a high note, with a 4-3 victory over Eastern York on May 14th.

"Probably our best played game all around against very good competition," noted head coach Jeff Hartman. "A nice way to wrap up the season."

The evenly matched showdown featured seven hits from each side, and the teams mirrored each other with runs scored in the second, third, and fifth innings, but it was the Tribe who got the job done with an addition run scored in the third, backed up by a defense that committed zero errors in the field.

Jaden Fabian captured the win on the mound, striking out three batters, walking two, and allowing three runs over six innings of work.

"Jaden pitched his best game of the year," credited the coach.

Alex Eisenberger spurred the offense with two hits that drove in two runs, and AJ Small also provided a pair of hits.

Xavier Cannon and Nicholas Eichelberger each added a hit, and a triple from Josh Schwartz accounted for the remaining Donegal hits.

The triumph boosted the Tribe's win count to eight, finishing with an overall record of 8-11-1.

"We finished with many positives," summarized Hartman. "Lots of underclassman got valuable varsity experience and we're starting to learn how to win. I look forward to seeing who steps up to lead us in the offseason."
