Training provided to West Lampeter Township Police

The Friends of the West Lampeter Township Police Department reimbursed West Lampeter Township $1,610 in July for the cost of its annual online training through PoliceOne Academy.

The supplemental training is accessible online and available to all the officers. It provides flexibility by allowing the officers to complete courses at the times that fit into their varied schedules. The courses that the West Lampeter Police train on are dependent upon the needs of the department and the officers. West Lampeter officers have been focusing on courses designed to improve relations between law enforcement and the community.

The 400 topics covered in PoliceOne Academy include recognizing emotional and psychological disorders, responding to people with mental illnesses, active shooter situations, narcotics enforcement, recognizing domestic violence and child abuse, identity theft, crisis intervention training, improving cultural awareness, understanding and respecting racial and cultural differences and learning first aid measures.

Courses are certified by the Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission. For more information on the Friends of the West Lampeter Police Department, visit http://www.friendsoftheforce.com.
