Tree-Lighting Event Posted

Light Up Downtown Hershey, the annual tree-lighting event, is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 3, from 2 to 6 p.m. in ChocolateTown Square, at the corner of Chocolate and Cocoa avenues.

The tradition of lighting a Christmas tree in Hershey dates to 1914, when a tree was decorated and placed in the center of town. Milton S. Hershey was asked to share a Christmas message that year, and he commented on the spirit of cooperation present in the town. In keeping with his message, this year, Downtown Hershey Association, Milton Hershey School, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company, The Hershey Trust, William S. Bowman Trust, and The Hershey Company have cooperatively worked together to bring the magic of the holidays back to downtown Hershey.

During Light Up Downtown Hershey, Santa will arrive at 2:30 p.m., and children may visit with him until 5:30 p.m. There will be entertainment throughout the event and free cookies and hot chocolate starting at 3 p.m. Additional snack items will be available for purchase, and holiday vendors will line the park. The event will culminate with the lighting of the holiday tree and the singing of "O Christmas Tree" to mark the start of the 2022 holiday season.

The event is free of charge. Volunteers are sought to help with the event. For more information, visit http://www.downtownhershey.com.
