Trim Your Tree With A Mount Joy Ornament

Among the calls and inquiries Kerry Meyers receives as executive director of the Mount Joy Chamber of Commerce, there is a recurring theme: When will the Chamber bring back its Christmas ornament?

"The Chamber used to sell ornaments years ago," she explained. "I've been here 10 years, and almost every year since I've worked here, I've gotten calls asking if we're coming out with a Christmas ornament." She finally has an answer. The 2021 Mount Joy Chamber ornament is now available.

The brass-lacquered ornament, which is 3 inches tall and 0.5 millimeters thick, features the Rotary clock. "The clock is the center of town, so it's a great one to start with," Meyers remarked. "It's a point of reference in town. If people aren't sure where something is located, I'll often say, 'Do you know where the clock is?' and they'll say yes, and I'll direct them from there."

The ornaments are for sale in the Chamber office, 62 E. Main St., while supplies last.

"The ornament sale is more for the community than it is a huge fundraiser for us," Meyers said, "although 25% of the proceeds are going to the Mount Joy Rotary for allowing us to use the image of the clock."

She anticipates featuring a different location each year, such as the Milanof-Schock Library or the Mount Joy Area Historical Society, with a portion of ornament sales benefiting the chosen site.

Ashley Zell, Chamber executive assistant, helped choose the design for the ornament. "I'm really pleased with how they turned out," she stated. "They are sturdy, but they aren't heavy. They aren't going to weigh down your tree branch."

Meyers said she's gotten a great response to the ornaments so far and has sold quite a few. Supply is limited, so she encourages anyone who is interested in purchasing one to stop in the Chamber office soon. Sales are by cash or check only.

"We've had people buy ornaments for family members who used to live in town," she noted. "They make a great gift."
